Tsuzuki: Hisoka...!! Hisokaa!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tsuzuki looks at the blood-stained wall and the blood on his hands, wondering if Hisoka is safe. Maria apologizes, taking the blame, but Tsuzuki says it is his fault. He let down his guard, he should have noticed that insane eye, the eye that will do anything to get what it wants. Tsuzuki: "This is his declaration of war. It isn't just me. This is a battle of JuOhCho." Maria: "But if I hadn't done all those things, this wouldn't have happened. Please punish me!" Tsuzuki: "...You shouldn't ask for that." Maria: "But..." Tsuzuki: "You were only used. While we were concentrated on you, The real 'Dracula' was vigilantly waiting for an opportunity. Mostly likely laughing from the shadows." Isn't it so? Muraki...! Somewhere else... Muraki: "Shinigami truly isn't just a nickname for EnMaChoOh's bureaucracy. Even if you break the bones and scoop out the marrow, regeneration stills begins. The anatomy is just like a living person's." Hisoka wakes up, blood still covering his throat and tied to a pillar with what looks like lots of wire. Muraki explains that the wire is made of the hair of women and that resistance is futile (Theria: Sorry for the Star Trek: Next Generation reference, couldn't resist). Hisoka is the bait to bring in Tsuzuki, so Muraki can get the highest power. Of course, Hisoka has no idea what he's talking about. Muraki: "Still, I'm surprised that you became a Shinigami even though you did die. Hisoka is getting incomfortable, sensing a black stagnating emotion. Muraki reminds him of that event three years ago, under the sleeping corpse under the sakura tree, a night like tonight when the full moon is red like blood. Using one of his magically summoned birds, Tsuzuki has a fix on Hisoka's location and is going after him. Maria grabs him just as he's about to leave, causing the unusually tall man to hit his head against the top of the window he was leaving through. She wants to come along to help somehow. Of course, Tsuzuki is a sucker for pretty girls and agrees to let her come. Hisoka doesn't know what Muraki is talking about so Muraki 'reminds' him. He sees it all again, that night when he snuck away from his home. He saw Muraki then, and the dead body. Muraki: "That night, you saw something you shouldn't have seen." Eyewitnesses must vanish. "The face of a killer. Too bad." That is the rule. But Muraki didn't kill him right away, instead, casting a curse written in blood on Hisoka's body. For the three years, Muraki watched Hisoka slowly die. He didn't think that he would have the chance to have such fun again. Always, they would be connected. Tsuzuki drop in from above, in between Hisoka and Muraki: "Yo, Doctor. Isn't the check-up over?" Muraki: "Are you ill? Tsuzuki-san? You came to take back the boy?" Tsuzuki: "...yes. Because whatever examination you're planning is going to be troubling." Hisoka: This voice... "You idiot, why did you come! This is a trap!!" Tsuzuki: "...I'm not going to throw you aside." (Theria: As in abandon.) Hisoka looks shocked. Tsuzuki: "Why...What goal do you have that you need to control Maria, making her kill people? For what reason did you capture Hisoka!" Muraki: "You don't get it? It is all for you. If there is a problem, JuOhCho will react. They will send you to deal with it." Muraki explains that he holds a special power, that of being able to suck out other people's life energy to fuel his own spiritual power. Muraki: "As a doctor, I couldn't do anything agains the daily pain. The limits of medicine, human's fragile existence... The lives I couldn't save are my regret, my remorse, my anger. No matter how many I save, I still lose to 'death'. Just what is the reason for a doctor's existence?" My poor, poor patients... "I don't know anymore. Since that time, I've gone mad. Since I understood the limits of human life, I've wanted that power of darkness, craved the human flesh that the killer is reborn in." Muraki: "When I get the power of the Shinigami in my hands, my power will be perfect." I consumed the people that Maria killed. "Ne, Tsuzuki-san?" Tsuzuki: That stupid mother... Muraki: "Of EnMaChoOh's eighteen Shinigami, the one with the most powerful magic and sworn Shikigami is you. Surely that will satisfy me, don't you think?" Tsuzuki: Your daughter was being used as a scapegoat the entire time and you didn't know it. Tsuzuki: "... Don't be ridiculous..." Muraki's face is suddenly cut. The pillars in the room cracking from the force of Tsuzuki's power gathering around him. Tsuzuki: "For that, you caused Maria pain, you've sacrificed countless people...!! We aren't a tool for you to use make others suffer. Muraki. I won't let you get away with this!!" The area Muraki is standing on explodes but he is protected by his shield. Muraki: "You have no right to lecture me. Ne? Tsuzuki-san." Outside, Hisoka wakes up and Maria is behind him. She was worried that he might have died because he didn't wake up. Hisoka points out that Shinigami can't die. Because of the fight, Maria says that Tsuzuki suggested they get as far away as possible. One of the blasts hits very nearby but strikes a shield. Turns out Tsuzuki gave Maria a shielding fuda (though she didn't know what it was). But with the fierceness of the battle, the shield is already beginning to crack. Hisoka wants to strengthen it but is still too weak. Muraki is enjoying himself immensely, taunting Tsuzuki. The next blast destroys the shield and Muraki sends two demon creatures to attack Hisoka who is shielding Maria with this body. Tsuzuki shield them both, the demons cutting deep into his back. The attacks continue until Hisoka yells at Muraki to stop them. The dear doctor looks insane now, quite ready to do whatever it is that he wanted Tsuzuki for. Hisoka tries to awaken Tsuzuki but the he's too far gone, over half of his back ripped apart by the demons and lightning. Trying to buy time, Hisoka asks why Muraki wants Tsuzuki, a small-time salaryman. Muraki: "Oya...you don't know? He's famous in the underworld, EnMaCho's right-hand man so to speak. Now get out of the way, boy. The blood sacrifice is about to begin." Then Hisoka hears Tsuzuki's voice in his head, manipulating Hisoka's contact empathy. Tsuzuki needs to borrowy Hisoka's power. Hisoka's power can't heal Tsuzuki fast enough but if they synchronize, Tsuzuki can borrow Hisoka's body to attack Muraki. Muraki: "Proof of friendship? ...how sickening. Well then you two-" Muraki is struck with a wave of power. He first thought Tsuzuki's power has increased from it's previous level but then he sees that it's actually Hisoka's and Tsuzuki's power combined. Not to be undone now, he summons forth a OuRyu (a dragon with wings and of a high class). Tsuzuki is awake now and tells Maria to escape because things are going to get dangerous. Hisoka meanwhile summons the Phoenix. "Concealed wish present, the twelve gods that guard over us. Appear before me!!" Hisoka orders the Phoenix to to destroy the OuRyu. Outside, Maria is almost knocked off her feet by the explosion of the building. Muraki: "Ahahahahaha! This is amazing, burn even more!! You will always be mine." I am you. You are me. Monsters whose thirst for our dreams yearn for blood's moisture. Born from the same woman... Before Maria's eyes, Tsuzuki carrying Hisoka over his shoulder emerges from the fiery remains of the collapsed building. Later, back in the Land of the Dead, Tsuzuki is getting chewed out by Konoe Kacho about the destruction. Tsuzuki will get no bonus, Tsuzuki dies. (Theria: :P). Maria's spirit has been sent back to China but will not be charged for the things that Muraki made her do. However, it seems that Maria's mother was killed, beheaded, however that's China's problem. Tsuzuki goes on about 'Dracula', how it was feared by people of old because of what it represented, someone who sacrificed others in order to live himself. He thinks of how Muraki was too pure, driven insane by despair. But Muraki isn't a solitary case, everywhere, everyone 'consumes' someone else in order to live. Bram Stoker wrote Dracula based on people, that anyone had the potential to become a vampire, anyone, anywhere. Tsuzuki: "There is even one right here." Hisoka is in the infirmary having just had a bandage removed by Watari who comment that it is too bad that Hisoka is quitting (being a Shinigami). But Hisoka says he's thinking of staying a bit longer. Hisoka finds Tsuzuki standing outside, wet from passing shower. Hisoka: "Think about your age. You're going to catch a cold." Tsuzuki: "I thought you wouldn't come to say good-bye." Hisoka: "Liar. You were waiting for me." Tsuzuki: "The chief is going to cry, having to find me another partner. Guess it doesn't matter, KyuShuu (Tsuzuki's sector) isn't very popular." Hisoka explains that he already knew that he was murdered and did not die because of an illness. He heard it shortly after he came and went to Konoe to confirm. That was when he was offered the job. Hisoka agreed to join because there was a possibility that he could find the culprit, to learn why he had to be killed. Now that he knows who it was and why, he's unsure of what to do. Tsuzuki invites him to continue being his partner. Hisoka doesn't understand why Tsuzuki is so concerned about him but he doesn't turn down Tsuzuki. Of course, as they walk back, Tsuzuki realizes he forgot to get the chief's souvenir. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Previous Manga Index Next
