Room One -- "Being hurt..." Fuwa is worried about what Hideko-chan had said earlier: "It's such a heavy responsibility. About the past and about now, everyone worries." Fuwa promises Tomoi to look for Hideko-chan and asks him to inform the police. When he's about to leave, Sugita-san suggests that he takes the car of their boss. Fuwa is afraid that the boss will get upset and worse of all: he doesn't have the keys. Fortunately Sugita-san, like all the other employees, knows where the key is hidden. While Fuwa gets into the car, Sugita-san tells him to call on the car phone if he learns anything. The sun is setting while Fuwa drives around and worries about Hideko-chan doing something foolish. He realizes that he hasn't heard a single word from Izumi but when he calls home, he gets the answering machine and he leaves a message for Izumi-chan. The next morning, Izumi awakes in Ojiisan's hospital room. He feels well and wants to return home. "How about, if after Ojiisan leaves the hospital....", Izumi starts to asks, but it is okay already, she doesn't have to say anymore. To her horror she discovers that her clothes smell and although she is afraid of what she would find home, she decides to get a change of clothes. On the way out she bumps into Natori-san who just comes into the room. He's happy for Ojiisan that Izumi will come and live with him, but Ojiisan warns him not to be too hasty. Fuwa is drinking a hot coffee from a vending machine after having searched all night. He overhears two taxi drivers discussing a weird thing they had witnessed all night. Apparently a beat up NSX (the type of car Hideko-chan is driving) has been seen driving round and round on the ring around Tokyo. At the apartment Izumi gets Fuwa's message which says: "Izumi-chan, I'll probably won't be home tonight as work has not been finished. After I get home we have to talk." Izumi doesn't believe him and packs her clothes and leaves. Fuwa finally finds Hideko-chan being parked on the side of the road. She is surprised to see Fuwa. He tells her he has been worried and has been looking for her. She apologizes and tells him was going someplace, but that this place turned out to be just nowhere. That’s the only thing she knew all night while driving. She discovered that this was very much like her life: it is list like the ring way around Tokyo, it goes around and around. The first thing she wants to do is to find a place to live on her own. Fuwa is happy that Hideko-chan has grown so much emotionally. People can change after all, and it's a good thing. Hideko-chan remarks that the car got pretty much smashed up in the process, but Fuwa assures her that those bumps can easily be repaired, it will only take some money. Outside Izumi is feeding a cat and is happy that she can stay with Ojiisan, although she feels that she is a burden. "Please remember me, Senpai." A tear wells up in her eye and she hugs the cat. Room Two -- "Homeless girl" Natori-san is keeping Ojiisan company and looking out of the window at the visitors approaching the hospital. Ojiisan appears a bit quiet and Natori-san asks him what the matter is, isn't he happy that his great-grand child is coming to live with him? Ojiisan tells him that it seems like a pleasure. Natori-san doesn't understand, hasn't Izumi-chan come to take care of Ojiisan? Ojiisan doesn't really reply and Natori-san leaves to make a phone call, he understands that the apartment will be a problem. When Izumi arrives at the hospital she is met by a very worried Natori-san: Ojiisan is not to be found within the hospital. They run to the apartment, but nobody is there either. Izumi thinks for a while and dashes off again. At the place where his house used to stand, Ojiisan oversees the parking lot. When Izumi and Natori-san show up he tells them that he wanted to see his land before dying. Natori-san, superstitiously forbids him to speak this way, Ojiisan has now his great-grand child who came to care for him. Ojiisan explains that it is just his way of telling them that he is getting old. Natori-san gets finally explained that Izumi is not a relative of Ojiisan and that they only know each other from working together before. Natori-san doesn't understand what difference it makes, Izumi really seems to care for Ojiisan. Natori-san himself is not related to Ojiisan either and doesn't he care for him? Izumi starts to cry, making Natori-san very ill at ease. Still sobbing she explains that she didn't want to lie to Ojiisan, she really cares for him. She explains that she has lost her place to go back home to. Ojiisan asks sympathetically if she has quarreled, but Izumi denies forcefully having quarreled, it just ended between them. Ojiisan reflects that she's too hasty. In the mean time Natori-san feels excluded, as he has no idea what they are talking about. He's very much surprised when he learns from Ojiisan that Izumi has been living together with a certain Fuwa Raichou for two years. Natori-san thinks about this news and comes up with the suggestion to live together with the three of them. Ojiisan can't take this guy seriously, doesn't he know how many years it will take to rebuild his house? He will be dead before that. Natori-san tells them not to worry, he has been taking classes on this subject and since the land is there, he can rebuild it, three separate houses if need be. Why to study, why going to university? Now he understands. For this reason he's still a ronin (student without university, originally a samurai without a master). Izumi is not convinced that he should go this far, but he ignores her, until now on he has not been serious. He explains that this year is his last chance, he cannot be a burden on his parents any longer. That evening Fuwa returns home, being very tired. He reflects on how he cannot stay up all night anymore like when he was younger. The first thing he does is to listen to the message on the answering machine. It is Izumi explaining that she will live at Tanokura Ojiisan's place from now on. Izumi wishes Fuwa all happiness and the message ends. Suddenly being very awake, Fuwa realizes that Izumi was talking about the Hideko-chan situation. How could she say such a childish thing? He digs through his drawers and finds the address of Tanokura-Ojiisan that Shachou had given him earlier and he runs off. They better had a good talk, such a blockhead. Izumi-chan! Room Three -- "Declaration of independence" While running to Ojiisan's house, Fuwa reflects about what Izumi must have seen. He realizes that she thinks that he has been unfaithful and is upset that she is such a child. In Natori-san's room Izumi is busy cleaning the mess, no wonder he got ill. He tells her that he will do it himself, but Izumi asks him just when he'll do it. Natori-san feels being treated like a little brother even though he's older than Izumi. Looking at her bottom, he realizes that she has been together with a gown-up man. She must have often .... When he looks up he notices that Izumi has found his stack of adult magazines. It must be terrible being a boy, Izumi finds, but Natori-san tells her that it is normal for a boy. Izumi gets up to do the shopping for dinner, as nobody expresses any preferences, Izumi decides to make curry. Fuwa has been waiting outside and follows her. He hopes that they can come to an agreement, but he realizes that a person's feelings can change and that maybe Izumi doesn't have any feelings left for him. No, what on earth is he thinking; he has to make sure. When he calls her name, Izumi refuses to talk. Fuwa tells her that she shouldn't be such a child, to behave like an adult. Later Izumi passes to collect her stuff and tells Fuwa that she'll be off now. Fuwa is feeling down, trying to convince her that a misunderstanding is the reason for all of this. Izumi assures him that she does this for Ojiisan. Fuwa reminds her that Jiisan has family to care for him, Izumi's such a child, and it is not for Jiisan's sake that she is leaving. Izumi thanks Fuwa for his adult opinion. They have quarreled often about this now and Izumi admits that she when she saw Hideko-chan and Fuwa embrace each other, she felt anxious. But if it really was a misunderstanding after all, she still will feel anxious. To make a home for someone makes her happy. She tells Fuwa to keep up his work and that she will do the same, to stand firm. Fuwa promises the send the luggage and Izumi leaves. Fuwa is really pissed of with himself, then the house decides to give in to the endless rain and starts leaking again. Fuwa can stay at Sugita-san's place. Natori-san and Ojiisan are leaving the public bath, Ojiisan doesn't feel too well and Natori-san accuses him of overdoing it. Izumi leaves the women's side and her beauty strikes Natori-san. He gets a nosebleed and overlooking the night Tokyo skyline, he pledges to stand firm. The others are puzzled. Live goes on for our two heroes. Room Four -- "Spring awaits everybody" Izumi encourages Natori-san when he enters the university area to check on his results for the entrance exam. His looks depressed when he doesn't find his number on the lists. In the mean time, Fuwa and Sugita-san are presenting the current design of the house for Tomoi and his future wife. Tomoi is not happy at all and Fuwa gets upset, as it has been the seventh time already that he has changed the plans. Tomoi tells him that it looks like an amateur drew up the plans. Now Fuwa really looses it and Sugita-san cuts in to calm him down. He then turns to Tomoi's fiancée and asks her what she thinks of it. Much to Fuwa's horror, she tells them that she has no particular opinion, she leaves it all to her future husband. On the way back in the Shinkansen, Fuwa is complaining about Tomoi, but Sugita-san points out that the problem is really Fuwa. Ever since Izumi left he gets easily irritated. Fuwa cracks and lights a cigarette, Sugita-san points out that they in a non-smoking car. Fuwa assures him that it is not the fact that Izumi left him that is taking its toll, he is sure that Izumi will sooner or later return. Sugita-san finds this an expression of a lot of self-confidence and thinks that Fuwa is misjudging the situation. Back in Tokyo, Sugita-san is bothered by the pollen and announces that he will go home; Fuwa will first visit a real-estate agent, as he cannot freeload forever in Sugita-san's apartment. Izumi is trying to comfort the crying Natori-san. She assures him that there will be more announcements, that not all is lost yet. He tells her that she never experienced this and that she cannot understand. Izumi doesn't like his manner and thinks that he acts childish. When they get at Ojiisan's place, they hear Ojiisan yell at somebody to get out. Immediately Izumi tells Natori-san to duck, but he hesitates and is hit in the head by a whirling cane. Over a cup of green tea, after asking how Natori-san fared, Ojiisan explains that the man wants to build a karaoke box on his land. The things are popular now and must be very profitable. Izumi asks till when Ojiisan has a contract with man exploiting the parking lot. Ojiisan explains that it has been recently renewed for three years, and that this is the way he makes his living. Natori-san tells them that after finishing university and finding a job, he will build a house on Ojiisan's land. This means five or six years from now. Izumi realizes that this isn't very realistic. Now both Ojiisan and Natori-san are feeling down. They are cheered up when the cat Izumi has been feeding shows up and demands its food. After feeding the cat Izumi goes to work. When Fuwa arrives at Sugita-san's apartment he finds his whole family there. At work, Izumi's boss asks her to fill in for her colleague who normally has the shift after her. Izumi demands overtime pay: a thousand yen per hour. Reluctantly her boss accepts, making Izumi happy. The next customer is Natori-san. Izumi asks him if he still feels sad. Instead of replying, he asks if, after he has finished university, she wants to marry him. Room Five -- "Sleeping at night" "Marry you...!?" Izumi asks being surprised. Natori-san thinks that Izumi is refusing and starts to look depressed again, but Izumi assures him that it was just so sudden. He explains that when they will be living together in the future, marriage would be a good idea after he has finished university. He starts to say that he loves Izumi, but instead changes his sentence and orders a smoked salmon burger*, that even Izumi's boss didn't know they were selling, and a small coke. Izumi realizes that he was telling her that he loves her and is amazed by the fact that he could ask her to marry him, but could not tell her he loved her. The mystery of being a boy. She has not really thought about marriage, but suddenly a beautiful memory of Fuwa and her together enters her mind. Still blushing she hands the hamburger to Natori-san. After a pause, Natori-san asks her if she still loves that Fuwa chap. He then vows to enter university. After he left, Izumi curses herself for having such memories. That evening she wonders what Fuwa is doing right now. At Sugita-san's place, the whole Fuwa family is enjoying a beer. They have come to see him; they even brought the dog. His mother explained that since he has announced that he would come home for New Years and introduce them to his girlfriend, he didn't show up. His mother wants to know all about this girl and after Fuwa's tries to avoid the subject, she asks him how old he is. After he tells her that he's 27 years old now, she assures him that having a child at his age would be normal. Fuwa hesitates, Izumi-chan is still so young, and it would be like a child is having a child. His sisters are excited now they have learned the name of his girlfriend. Fuwa asks them if they came all the way from Shizuoka to pester him like this. Then Fuwa's father tells him that he is expected to come home on next Sunday to participate in a formal marriage interview they have prepared with a 23 years old girl, the youngest daughter of a sake brewer, in fact the kid sister of a friend of Fuwa's sister. The girl's looks are average. Fuwa finds this all very sudden and refuses to come. His father then leaves him the choice, either he introduces Izumi to the whole family as their daughter-in-law or he has to participate in the wedding interview. Fuwa thinks quickly and tells him that he no can do, he has to go to Fuji to work that day with Tomoi. His mother cries that even when he's in the neighborhood, he doesn't stop by to visit his parents. They leave in a taxi, telling him that they expect him to come home this Sunday. After the family has left, Fuwa and Sugita-san wonder about the ironies of life. So what is Fuwa going to do? Sugita-san wonders. He feels that this is a good opportunity to try and get Izumi to return. Fuwa is skeptical, that girl is so stubborn. He inquires why Sugita-san is so worried about him, but Sugita-san simply replies that he's only bothered because Fuwa's work is suffering. Sugita-san's hay fever causes him to return inside, while Fuwa wanders off into the night and stops at a pachinko place. He realizes that it is Izumi-chan's birthday and that she has become 18 years old. He remembers how when they first met she looked like a junior high school student. He feels miserable thinking about Izumi-chan. At Ojiisan's apartment, both Izumi and Ojiisan are under their futons, but Ojiisan realizes that Izumi-chan is crying, burying her face in her pillow. On Ojiisan's question, she explains that it is nothing, just memories of Fuwa. Ojiisan tells her to be patient and that she can return to Fuwa if she wants to. Izumi assures him that she's fine, she's focusing on her studies. Everyday is fine, it really is. Ojiisan tells her that being with Fuwa must have been fun and Izumi's defenses cave in and she cries in Ojiisan's arms. She loves Fuwa most of the whole world, Ojiisan realizes. *Natori-san wants to say that he loves her and utters the first syllable of "suki," the Japanese word meaning "to like/ to love." When he suddenly feels uncomfortable with all the other customers he changes it into "sumouku sa-mon ba-ga." Of course this is completely lost in translation. Room Six -- "One way love" A very tired looking Fuwa shows up at Tomoi's place after having worked for two days and nights. Tomoi is a bit surprised as they had an appointment for Sunday, but he knows already all about the formal wedding interview that Fuwa has to participate in on Sunday. Tomoi still doesn't like the design and complaints how awful it is to build a house: all the legal formalities, all the appointments to review the plans of the house in which Fuwa doesn't have to live... Finally he mocks Fuwa because he looks so tired. On the way back Fuwa dreams of Izumi having built a house out of junk. She's not coming back, he realizes. The next morning Izumi is off to university when she meets Natori-san outside. Both blush and Izumi walks off to go to school. Behind her back, Natori-san assures her that he's passed the exam. Ojiisan has watched the scene and wants to talk to Natori-san. He asks Natori-san if he proposed to Izumi. Ojiisan recommends that he withdraw his proposal, what if he failed the exam? Natori-san assures Ojiisan that he certainly did pass. Ojiisan continues that Natori-san should realize something about Izumi, she is tied up in her own past. This talk about passing this years entrance exam is not the reason; there is also this matter of rebuilding Ojiisan's house together. Natori-san assures Ojiisan again the he passed this time, he's confident about it. At university people ask Izumi what the matter is. Does he have problems with her boyfriend? Did they quarrel? No, she's pregnant, another girl knows for sure. She has to give birth. Izumi assures them that she is not pregnant, bur confides that she's worrying about a marriage proposal. Everybody is very happy for her, but wasn't she already living with him? Izumi explains that this is another person and everyone starts to ask her who it is. At that moment a girl enters, asking for Hiyama Izumi and tells her that there is somebody asking to see her at the entrance, it's a man! Her whole class follows her, wondering if this could be the one who proposed to Izumi. To Izumi's surprise it is Fuwa. They start to talk, asking how they are doing, etc. Fuwa apologizes for being bad and asks her to come back. All Izumi's classmates are commenting on what is said and on the fact that Fuwa is already an adult. They just know for sure that Fuwa is cheating on her. Izumi gives them an angry look and leads Fuwa to a quieter place. Again Fuwa asks her to come back to him. Because he enjoys Izumi's love. But what about Ojiisan's house? Izumi asks. Fuwa doesn't really care about living with Ojiisan and Izumi's smile fades away. She accuses him of not taking her seriously about rebuilding Ojiisan's house. Fuwa denies and tells her that everything will turn out all right. Izumi asks if she can count on Fuwa's cooperation in rebuilding Ojiisan's house, and when he doesn't answer she knows that he thinks that she's unreasonable. Fuwa forces her to look at him and assures her that it is of no importance, she's just being friendly. "Being friendly? Well thank you for your adult opinion." Izumi explains that she has a lesson and runs off. The spectators hiding behind the bushes are having a great time speculating about Fuwa's unanswered love and the general consensus is that Fuwa and Izumi should have talked more. On her way back to class, a teacher approaches Izumi and asks her to come to see him in the staff room during lunch break. Back at the office, Fuwa is talking with Sugita-san who accuses him of once again offending Izumi by treating her like a child. Fuwa explains about Izumi's plan to rebuild Ojiisan's house but Sugita-san tell him that that really isn't the problem. When everyone is happy, the house isn't too small. Fuwa's problem is to live with a stranger. Fuwa is a bit offended about Sugita-san's speech. In that case he should talk to someone else, Sugita-san retorts. When Izumi during the lunch break comes to see her teacher, he offers her a job helping them out to prepare next years teaching materials. She happily accepts and feels that her life is really starting to turn out fine. At the local shrine, Natori-san prays for divine intervention to pass the exam. Fuwa's mother is not happy when he cancels the appointment for the wedding interview. Room Seven -- "The person pursuing his dream" In the train back home, Fuwa dreams about warning Izumi in her junk house about an approaching typhoon. She tells him that everything is cool and subsequently the whole house is blown away in the strong winds. He wakes up saying her name and Sugita-san who's sitting next to Fuwa accuses him of being seriously ill. Fuwa agrees that he can't stop worrying about that stubborn girl. Sugita-san tells him that Fuwa is always looking after Izumi, and that this is maybe that's what bothering her. And yet he's not looking after her, Fuwa realizes. The next morning, Izumi accompanies Natori-san to university to check on the entrance exam results. When she tries to find his number, she meets Momoko-chan and her boyfriend, Tsutomu-kun. Both are accepted and Izumi congratulates them. They expect Izumi to come and join them next year. Izumi then realizes that Natori-san has disappeared and she notices that Natori-san's number is finally not listed. She apologies to Momoko-chan and runs after Natori-san. She finds him trying to climb the fence to throw himself in front of a train. She manages to pull him down. He tells her hat this is the end, but she cannot believe that failing the entrance exam could mean the end. He asks her what he should do and she knows: he should have a drink. At the bar Izumi phones Ojiisan, explaining the situation. She orders beer, but the person taking the order has a difficult time believing that Natori-san is already 20 years old. Izumi orders an Oolong tea. Natori-san tells that he absolutely wanted to pass the exam because of the three of them going to live together. Izumi wants to know why he already has given up; he still can study, as he's not too old. Natori-san tells her that it is too late, after being a ronin for three years this would be unreasonable. Izumi tries to encourage him by telling that she will take the entrance exam next year. They could go to university together. Natori-san won't be there, he assures her. What a boring life he has had. Izumi finds him way too young to look back on his life already. He should have a drink and tomorrow there will be a new start. The beer arrives and Izumi fills Natori-san's glass that he gulps down, causing him to get into a drunken stupor. Izumi worries about the one and a half bottle of beer being left over. She looks very tempted and then asks for another glass. That night Izumi and Natori-san arrive at the apartment. Izumi tells him not to fall asleep and continues her explication about how she knows somebody who at the age of 27 decided to study architecture. She assures Natori-san that there is much more to come in his life. Natori-san realizes that this must be Fuwa she is talking about and accuses her of still being attached to him. This pisses Izumi off and she tells him to shape up. He's only speaking of his own troubles and not thinking of anything else. Either he's angry or sulking, while really he's just being childish. What are Izumi and Ojiisan thinking to do? Natori-san asks. Why would it be a disaster when the three of them would build that house and live together in it? It is because Izumi quarreled with Fuwa. Izumi denies it. Is it just such an unreasonable project? She asks. Natori-san tells her that he thinks that it is unreasonable. He suddenly takes her by both shoulders and tells her that he loves her. When he tries to kiss her, she falls back into the room where he hugs her and pushes her to the floor. She yells his name loudly and when he lets go of her, she hugs herself and moves away from him, into the corner. He apologizes and explains that if only he looked more adult. Ojiisan has heard the noise and enters the room, asking them what is going on. While starting to cry, Izumi assures him that all is fine, it was just nothing, nothing... Room Eight -- "The visitor next door" Fuwa is looking for an apartment when outside a real-estate office when he runs into Sugita-san and his girlfriend Dojiko-san. They are looking for an office, as Sugita-san wants to start for himself. Fuwa wonders if this is a smart move regarding the economic recession but Sugita-san tells him that it'll be okay, he will be using his contacts and he thinks of taking along someone other from the office. Fuwa assumes that he is talking about Dojiko-san, which Sugita-san acknowledges, and inquires if they will get married. Both object and Fuwa thinks that they are so alike that they already seem a married couple. When Fuwa enters the real-estate office he walks into the door that is being opened by Natori-san. The latter apologizes and then turns around to thank the real-estate agent once more. Fuwa enters and states that he is looking for an apartment. At university Izumi is working very intensely and very efficiently. The others are watching her, remembering that she used to be an office lady. One of her fellow students finds Izumi's behavior eerie. In the mean time Izumi is focusing on how she won't give up. When the girl, addressing Izumi as senpai, asks her where to put the papers, she snaps back to stop calling her "senpai." On the way home and working in the hamburger shop she constantly thinks about not giving up: she will build Ojiisan's house. When she returns home, she notices the door of Natori-san's apartment being left open and when she enters she finds a note of Natori-san telling her that he has returned home, he thanks her very much and apologizes for last time. "No guts" Izumi says and crumbles the letter and throws it, hitting Tarachan. She tells Ojiisan that they won't give up, when they both will persist they will surely rebuild the house. When Fuwa returns at Sugita-san's apartment, he has found an apartment in Nakano. Sugita-san finds this very good, as he has found an office in the area too. He explains that he wants Fuwa to join him in the new company. His salary will be the same and his job will be mostly to assist Sugita-san and of course he will more and more getting to make designs. Sugita-san assures Fuwa that his joining is essential and Fuwa agrees. That night Izumi has her face buried in her pillow and she tells Ojiisan that she thinks that she has hurt Natori-san. Natori-san wanted to be treated like an adult. And how he told her that her dream of rebuilding Ojiisan's house is childish. But she will make this childish dream come true; she'll study and work real hard. Ojiisan is pleased but tells her that she is young and that he is old and close to death, this apartment will be the place where he will die. He assures her that he thinks that both she and Natori-san are very mature. However he will sell the land to the karaoke box so he'll earn some money. He recommends that Izumi will return to Fuwa's place. Izumi refuses and she admits that she just not left him because of Ojiisan's house. At any rate she won't go back! "You're one stubborn person," Ojiisan tells her. "You too," Izumi retorts. Early the next morning Ojiisan and Izumi are awakened by noises coming from the room next door. They rush out and they find Fuwa moving into the apartment. He smiles at them and introduces himself: "My name is Fuwa, pleased to meet you." Room Nine -- "The mature and childish love game" Fuwa is moving into his new room. Next door Ojiisan and Izumi are having breakfast. Ojiisan asks her if she doesn't have to help, but Izumi tells him that Fuwa is a professional in moving. Sugita-san is off to sign the contract for the new office and Fuwa looks around his new room, realizing that it is not very spacious. Outside he finds Ojiisan looking for the cat and he ends up being invited for tea. Ojiisan tells him about Izumi's job preparing school materials. Ojiisan is curious about Fuwa moving in right next door, and Fuwa explains that it was just luck that that apartment was vacant. At university her colleagues are surprised to see Izumi in such a good mood. She feels Fuwa came for her. She realizes that she said many awful and selfish things. Senpai is mature. Her fellow student comes up to her and asks advice of Hiyama-senpai. Izumi asks her to stop calling her senpai, but the girl explains that she just does it to show her respect for Izumi and because Izumi always appears to be so mature. In any case, the girls wants some advice from Izumi as her boyfriend always wants to have sex, but the girl doubts he really loves her and is afraid that he is only interested in her body. Izumi is embarrassed being asked these kinds of questions all the time, but the girl tells her that it is because everybody is the opinion that Izumi seems so mature. Izumi tells her that she isn't mature. On the way back she passes a stand selling taiyaki (made of red snapper?) and first orders two, but later changes her mind and orders three taiyaki's. Back home, she is about to knock on Fuwa's door, but changes her mind and enters Ojiisan's room. When he notices that there are three taiyaki's, she tells him that she bought one for Tarachan, the cat as well. Ojiisan tells Izumi that Tarachan never showed up today, maybe he has returned where he came from. Ojiisan adds that maybe Izumi should also go home, now that Fuwa made such an effort. Izumi still refuses and runs off to the public baths, crashing into Fuwa who came by to treat them on taiyaki's. Ojiisan asks him if he is all right and tells Fuwa about how stubborn Izumi is. Soaking in the bath, Izumi thinks about how she doesn't understand: She wonders if she has to become meek to become an adult and if obstinate behavior is childish. She would have thought the contrary. Looking into the mirror, she doesn't understand: is she childish or is she mature? When she is doing her laundry, suddenly Fuwa sits down next to her. He asks her is she is avoiding him but she denies this. He tells her that he has heard most from Ojiisan and how he thinks that it must have been awful. "What will happen after this," he asks her. In her turn Izumi asks what his intention is, moving next door. He tells her he worried, but she interprets that that he thinks that she is a child. "Worry about what," she wants to know. He tells her that he just worried and she accuses him of using this just as a pretext; Fuwa accuses her of entwining everything. Izumi then wants to know why he was so intimate with Hideko-san, explaining him that all of this has nothing to do with Ojiisan's house. Fuwa is surprised that Hideko-chan's name gets mentioned He assures her that he has not been unfaithful to her. Izumi change the subject back to Ojiisan's house and accuses Fuwa of not thinking it being important. "Irresponsible," Fuwa shouts. She's very childish to be angry for no reason. In the real world some things happen and other things will not happen, to make a judgment is being mature. Well if that is the case, Izumi will never be mature she vows. Page 165 Title Room 10 -- The reconciliation of the couple Page 166 1 Fuwa: You don't want to become an adult... 2 Fuwa: What's the matter, Izumi-chan? 3 Fuwa: You always said that you wanted to be a grown-up. You often said that you wanted to grow up fast, didn't you? 5 Fuwa: Recently you're behaving childish, I have been thinking about you being mature a lot recently. Page 167 1 Izumi: As for me, I'm not an adult. 2 Fuwa: Give me a good explanation. 5 Fuwa: Izumi-chan. 6 Izumi: I'll have to dry this. 7 Fuwa: Izumi-chan! Page 168 1 Fuwa: Shit! Mine is not ready! 2 Fuwa: Izumi-chan! 3 Fuwa: Really what you are thinking, I don't understand! Izumi: Don't say that, I think you understand. 4 Fuwa: I don't understand! Izumi: Nevertheless you didn't stop me! 6 Fuwa: What are you saying now, at this late hour? When I met you at school you didn't listen, did you? 7 Izumi: And yet I wanted you to stop me. Page 173 1 Fuwa: Well, were you just leaving sulking like a child even if I told you? You said that building Jiisan's house was great, why was that? What you are saying is unreasonable. It's full of contradictions. 2 Fuwa: I won't keep you. 6 Fuwa: Now you're crying! You're talking about love as it pleases you, and in addition you're crying! Page 174 1 Izumi: You're an idiot! 2 Fuwa: Hah, an idiot!? 3 Fuwa: It seems you called me an idiot!? Izumi: Idiot idiot idiot! Idiot idiot idiot idiot! Fuwa: You call me an idiot! 4 Izumi: Irresponsible person! You don't care! Indecisive person! 5 Fuwa: How dare you.... 6 Fuwa: Blockhead! You lose your temper! Izumi: Good for nothing! A lot from the time we met. 3 Izumi: Our relationship was good, very good, I thought. Page 177 1 Fuwa: Why did you leave? Your place is on my side, isn't it? 2 Izumi: But, about Ojiisan.... Fuwa: I understand your concern. 3 Fuwa: But for me it's not all right however, Making somewhere else a place to live, 4 Fuwa: I don't want you to be separated from me. 5 Izumi: I don't know where my place is anymore. 6 Fuwa: Your place? Because your place to live is wrong. Page 178 1 Izumi: I was going to look for a place to live on myself, I thought. But in my mind I really wanted to catch up with you. 2 Izumi: I'm becoming an adult, I would like to catch up with you. 3 Izumi: However, as for me I cannot be someone gentle like you. 4 Izumi: Either I'm seen as an adult or as a child, Adult or child, I don't understand, Being childish occasionally I agree myself.... Page 179 1 Izumi: I'll be 18-years old already soon, but no one will believe it. 4 Fuwa: Your 18 years, they're many therefore. 5 Fuwa: It's not a question of being adult or being childish. It's just Izumi-chan being Izumi-chan. Page 180 1 Izumi: Again, you deceive me with a hug. 3 Fuwa: I don't deceive you or anything like that. It was just something I wanted to do. 4 Fuwa: My adult plan was to just to pretend I understood you. In reality I shouldn't be talking a lot. 5 Fuwa: After this we need to talk lots more. I shouldn't be pretending. 6 Fuwa: Please come back home to me, Izumi-chan. You are, Page 181 1 Fuwa: Essential. 4 Fuwa: Perhaps you will. 7 Fuwa: Come home to me. You'll be less lonely. Because if you don't come back, Page 182 1 Fuwa: From here, we will be separated for life. 2 Izumi: Yeah. Page 183 Title Room 11 -- Looking for the cat Page 184 2 Ojiisan: That was quickly. 3 Ojiisan: You made up? Fuwa: It was a lot of trouble for you. 4 Ojiisan: No trouble at all. Page 188 1 Izumi: I'm ready! 2 Fuwa: You're looking for the cat, the unpleasant fact that Jiisan will be lonely has nothing to do with it. Izumi: That's right. 4 Izumi: However, if Ojiisan is downhearted because of me, I won't return to you! 5 Fuwa: I understand, however I cannot help. There's the move to finish and, 5 Fuwa: There's the house of Tomoi and, the new office of sugita-san. Besides the drink of yesterday... Izumi: I'm off! Fuwa: The resemblance is not very good. 7 Fuwa: In this megalopolis a cat cannot be found. Izumi: Everyday he came to get a meal. Page 191 1 Fuwa: In some respects it was a pet cat, wasn't it? Page 200 1 Lady: My cats are my family. Ojiisan: I see, well however... 2 Lady: Really. A person loving cats cannot be a bad person. You're so reserved. 5 Lady: Really. Ojiisan: Well, just for a little while... Page 201 1 Izumi: I'm wondering... If we didn't push Ojiisan. 2 Fuwa: No way. Jiisan seemed to enjoy it. 3 Izumi: He really seemed to enjoy it. Sugita: The framework, no matter how often to see it is a great thing. Tomoi: I'm crying. 4 Tomoi Thank you Fuwa. I'm happy I asked you to make the design. Fuwa: Tomoi: Sugita: There's still more to come after this. Page 205 1 Fuwa: But perfection is a pleasure. 2 Sugita: It seems like, a pleasure. 4 Voice: Fool!! 5 Boss: Take care carrying that. Fool. Otherwise you'll get fired! Natori: Excuse me! Boss! 6 Boss: Hey, carry it this way. Natori: Yes. Sugita-san, it's good to work independently, I think. 2 Sugita: We've design work to do. I accepted our first job being independent. To be accurate, we have to do a design over again. 3 Fuwa: Huh? 4 Sugita: It is close to the house you used to live before. I did the design but we found that during the construction work they left out crucial parts of the design. Fuwa: It's the same everywhere. 5 Sugita: It was the first building I handled the design of. An earthquake made it slant. Within a month of being built. 6 Fuwa: I know about this building. Page 209 1 Fuwa: As I was supposed to work here. 2 Sugita: I see. I'm surprised. 3 Sugita: I'm so sorry. Fuwa: It's not your fault. 4 Fuwa: However, meeting you seems like miracle. If the building you built would not have slanted, nothing of this would have happened. 5 Fuwa: If I hadn't met you. I would maybe not have lived together with Izumi-chan. 6 Sugita: I wouldn't say the cause is entirely due to the "bubble." 7 Fuwa: There was something good in it. Page 210 1 Sugita: It's a good thing and it's a bad thing. Fuwa: Indeed. 4 Fuwa: Huh? 5 Izumi: Welcome home. 6 Fuwa: I'm home, I'm early today. Fuwa: Buying some sake. 2 Tokiko: Ah, for me I steamed meat bun and a pizza bun, 2 big ones of each. Fuwa: Sure, sure. 3 Fuwa: Whose celebration is it. Really. 4 Fuwa: What's the matter, Izumi-chan? 6 Fuwa: Ah, the population density is getting high. 7 Izumi: It doesn't look like our place. Fuwa: Let's go and get some tea however. 8 Izumi: Yeah! A home for the two of us. 5 Fuwa: Come here. Page 218 7 Fuwa: I wonder if you can call this a home. Page 219 1 Fuwa: A home is where we are. 3 Fuwa: How many times has it been, however. Looking for a good home. How many times has it been that I had to worry about a thing like a home. 4 Fuwa: It's important to the mind to know that there's a home for us. 5 Fuwa: Izumi-chan... Page 220 1 Fuwa: The home I have in mind, you're always part of it. From now on the place for the two of us is different, This will never change. 2 Izumi: Yes. Fuwa: And first of all we have to find a home, 4 Fuwa: Let's visit a real estate agent....
