Comments: This is the third chapter in what I am [ME] calling the "Spring 
          of Life" storyline. The Shonen Sunday version has a splash page
          and 3 story pages in colour. [Yep, Akane nude and in colour :-)]   
          The numbers (nn.pp) before the dialogue are the page number then
          panel number.  Scene setting comments are in <..>  As of version
          1.2 the page numbers are from the compilation. Send corrections 
          to me (Michael), all praise to Cynthia!

The story so far: 

Chapter One:   After cooking a meal which Ranma refuses to eat [and pays 
the price for his refusal :-)]  Akane sees a news broadcast of a monster
which she remembers from an incident when she was a little girl.  When she
answers a phone call for help from the residents of the area that the
monster has appeared in, she decides to go and help them.  She packs and
goes leaving a note which says where she is going but not why she is
leaving.  Souun decides it is because Ranma insulted her cooking once to
often and Ranma is sent to apologise and bring her back.  Meanwhile Akane
arrives at the area and is attacked by the monster again.  She is saved by
a mysterious figure...

Chapter Two:   Who turns out to be Shinnosuke.  Shinnosuke lives with his
grandfather in the Higo forest.  Shinnosuke has very bad short-term memory
and tends to forget things that have just happened.  The two fight with 
the monsters of the forest to keep them under control.  It seems that Akane
may have met Shinnosuke a long time ago and at that time he saved her from
a monster.  While saving Akane the young boy received a three major
scratches across his back.  In the meantime Ranma has arrived looking for
Akane.  He is very startled by the giant animals and fish that he sees in
the forest.  He runs across Shinnosuke who says that he can't remember
seeing a girl in the forest.  Meanwhile...

      Ojii-san:   You, who is severely absent-minded, remember what happened 
                 last night!

7.4   Ojii-san:   Shinnosuke, maybe this is LOVE!
      Shinnosuke: Who are you?


8.1   <They look at each other... toothbrushes in mouth ;-)>

8.2   <A slightly upset Grandfather>
      Ojii-san:   You forgot your grandfather?
      <A rather nonplused Shinnosuke>
      Shinnosuke: Oh, yes, it's Grandfather.

8.3   <Coming around the corner of the house>
      Akane:      Excuse me, breakfast is ready!
      Shinnosuke: Ah

8.4   <A tired looking Ranma staggering through the forest>

8.5   Ranma:      Bastard!   <A reference to Shinnosuke>
      Ranma:      Where did Akane go?

9.1   <Ranma see's the outside of Shinnosuke and Grandfather's house>
      Ranma:      Ah!

9.2   <Insert picture in 11.3 of Ranma>
      Ranma:      Its a residential house!  Let me call for help.

9.3   <Inside Shinnosuke and Ojii-san's house>
      Akane:      Yes, but I have no confidence in the taste.
      Shinnosuke: Smells good.

9.4   Akane:      If it is bad, just leave it.  I really have no confidence.

9.5   <Shinnosuke and Ojii-san start eating>
9.6   <then they both stop and just look at>
9.7     <the food with stunned looks...>
9.8      <A very worried looking Akane>

10.1  Akane:      I... I'm really sorry.  It must be bad.
      <Shinnosuke and Ojii-san both have tears coming out of their eyes>
      Sh. & Oj.:  Yu... 
10.2  <Background of fireworks exploding>
      Ojii-san:   YUM!
      Shinnosuke: Its the first time I have tasted such yummy rice!!
      Akane:      Eh...???

10.3  <a sparkling Akane>
      Akane:      REALLY?
      Shinnosuke: Another bowl please!

10.4  <Outside, watching and listening through a window>
      Ranma:      What..?


11.1  <Ranma remembers meeting Shinnosuke in the forest>
      Ranma:      That fellow was yesterday...
      <Yesterday's Shinnosuke speaks>
      Shinnosuke: Girl? I dunno about that.

11.2  <Ranma still hanging by the bars of the window>
      Ranma:      Huh?

11.3  <a rumbling occurs and inside the house>
      Akane:      What is this rumbling of the earth...
      Ojii-san:   M...

11.4 <Some very worried giant animals>

11.5 <Rushing out>
      Shinnosuke: I'll go and see what happened.


12.1 <Shinnosuke is rushing off with rice bowl and chopsticks in hand>
     <Akane is holding up his keeper brush and gumboots...           >
     Akane:      Shinnosuke, you forgot your weapons!
     Shinnosuke: Ah

12.2 <Akane and Shinnosuke talking>
     Shinnosuke: Er, well, if possible,

12.3 <Close up of Shinnosuke>
     Shinnosuke: Could you please make dinner, too?

12.4 <Close up of a surprised Akane>
     Akane:      Er?

12.5 <Akane and Shinnosuke talking, Ranma in the foreground listening in>
     Akane:      Is it okay for me to stay?
     Shinnosuke: Yes
     Ranma:      ....

12.6 <Shinnosuke starts to run off>
     Shinnosuke: See you!

13.1 <Without noticing it Shinnosuke bounces off a hidden Ranma>
     Akane:      See you!

13.2 <Akane is bedazzled, her mind is buzzing>
     (Could you please make dinner too make dinner too dinner too too too...)

13.3 <Ranma interrupts>
     Ranma:      Hey!!

13.4 <The pair talking>
     Akane:      Ranma, what are you doing in this kind of place?
     Ranma:      Hey!

13.5 Akane:      Me leaving home? Nonsense!

13.6 <Talking leaning on a tree>
     Akane:      I just came to get rid of the monsters.
     Ranma:      Hoh--


14.1 <The pair continue talking... >
     Akane:      Well this would be...

14.2 <Ranma is starting to sweat a little>
     Akane:      You came because you're worried?
     Ranma:      Of course not!

14.3 <Silence>

14.3 Ranma:      Who is that fellow?

14.4 Akane:      Ah... Shinnosuke.

14.5 Akane:      Do you mind?
     Ranma:      *NO!*
     <Yes he does by that reaction :-)>

14.6 <Silence>

14.7 Ranma:      Anyway, let's go home Akane.
     Ranma:      Apart from me, Uncle will be worried.


15.1 <Still talking by the tree>
     Akane:      I can't I have to make dinner.
     Ranma:      You don't think it is weird?

15.2 <Akane offers Ranma a bowl>
     Ranma:      Where in the world would exist people who would happily 
                 eat the rice you make?
     Akane:      But I made it taste good!

15.3 <Ranma looks at suspiciously>

15.4 <He tries it>

15.5 <Startled>
     Ranma:      What?

15.6 Ranma:      It's ordinary, no, rather, it's good...
     Akane:      Really? Is that so?
     <A really excited Akane!>

15.7 Ranma:      Huge and rare animals... 
                 and suddenly Akane became good in cooking...


16.1 <Akane is starting to get annoyed>
     Ranma:      There's a extraordinary secret in this forest!

16.2 <Ranma is given the "boot">
     Akane:      If it tastes good, why can't you just say that it's yummy?

16.3 <Shinnosuke in the forest with animals around him>
     Shinnosuke: It's strange... the forest is scared.

16.4 <Back in the house>
     Ojii-san:   If (by any chance) they're awake... ?


17.1 <That night back in the house, it is dinner time...>
     Shinnosuke: Another bowl please.

17.2 Shinnosuke: You are a genius in cooking.
     Akane:      I'm so happy! Please eat more!

17.3 Ojii-san:   Really...

17.4 Ojii-san:   It's been a long time since I've eaten rice with flavour in it.
     Ojii-san:   Shinnosuke just forgot to put miso in miso-soup.
     Akane:      Well...

17.5 Ojii-san:   Why don't you stay here for ever?
     Ojii-san:   Also, Shinnosuke has fallen in love with you.

17.6 Akane:      Nah, grandfather!
     Shinnosuke: Stop it, grandfather!

17.7 <Later outside at the well>
     Shinnosuke: Please do not mind about what grandfather says.
     Akane:      Ok.


18.1 <A pensive Shinnosuke>
     Shinnosuke: Well, I heard it but I forgot...

18.1 Shinnosuke: What's your name again?
     Akane:      Er.

18.2 Akane:      It's Akane.  Tendou Akane.

18.3 Shinnosuke: Akane... it is a good name

18.4 <Shinnosuke starts writing Akane's name on the wall of the house...>

18.5 <Starting to cover the wall completely with "Akane">

19.1 <Looking at his handy work>
     Shinnosuke: Okay! 

19.2 <A smiling Shinnosuke>
     Shinnosuke: I remembered it!

19.3 <Akane looks bemused... Is she falling for him...?>

19.4 <Popping his head around the corner>
     Ojii-san:   Shinnosuke! Is the tea still not ready?
     Shinnosuke: Oh no, I forgot it! I've come out to draw the water.

19.5 <The well comes up empty>
     Shinnosuke: Hm?

19.6 <Running off with the bucket>
     Shinnosuke: The well is dried. Please wait! 
     Shinnosuke: I'll go to the swamp to draw water.

19.7 <Grandfather looks horrified...>

20.1 <He collapses>
     Akane:      Grandfather!?

20.2 <Akane helps him up>
     Ojii-san:   The water in the well is dried out...
     Akane:      What is it? Grandfather?

20.3 <Back inside>
     Ojii-san:   Have you seen the wounds on Shinnosuke's back?
     Akane:      Yes?

20.4 Ojii-san:   Actually, Shinnosuke's life was ended that day.
     Ojii-san:   He is able to live until today is because of the 
                 water in the well.

20.5 Ojii-san:   The well is dried... and Shinnosuke will die.
     Akane:      Er??

20.6 <Out by the swamp>
     Shinnosuke: What did I come here for?

* Translation Note from Cynthia:

The literal translation of this line is:
Ojii-san:   Also, Shinnosuke has the word of "Ho" for you.

Explanation is:
"Ho" stands for "Horeru" in this case, which means "to fall in love with".
This is a slang in Japanese, especially when people are shy or do not want
to speak it obviously.

So, the real translation will be:
Ojii-san : Also, Shinnosuke has fallen in love with you.
